What's happening in project tracking

Any project manager handles four variables: expenditure, timing, duration and quality. Qualified PMs also try to make the organization of work better. The majority of undertakings employ such elements as people, money, and equipment to deliver something of value and hit selected targets. To work with projects effectively you need to deal with a number of factors. A few of them can be found in the next paragraph:

- Establishing goals and conducting analysis.

- Managing risk. Most have a this or that level of uncertainty.

- Choosing labor and equipment for the project.

- Having a clear idea about the product you wish to have on completion of the project.

- Supervising the project in terms of who is performing what and at what time.

- Assuaring adequate quality.

- Managing changes. Circumstances change. All projects occur in time, so the factor of change has to be accounted for.

- Exchanging information with project stakeholders.

To deal with these elements you can employ pencil and paper or perhaps a spreadsheet program. But you get quite a few advantages if you go for project tracking software:

- It makes scheduling easy. A program can process timing calculations. Each worker can have their own time-table. It just as well makes it simpler to track progress on different tasks.

- Dealing with several projects and handling a set of requirements. Management can use productivity management software to facilitate portfolio of projects analysis.

- Critical path is clearly visible. The critical path is a critically relevant notion in project management. If an activity on the critical path lasts more time than expected, dates of work on other tasks will be changed. It should be noted that for activities that are outside the critical path small modifications in how long it takes can have no impact whatsoever on other activities.

- Allowing all involved be aware of what is happening. The more complicated are the project needs, the more of them have to be talked about. Productivity tracking software makes dissemination of data easier than it has ever been before.

Is it always a must to use task tracking software?

Like any software solution, project management software has its issues. The most suitable time to use such software is when you managea few big projects. It could be more appropriate to operate smaller projects by hand, so that there is no need to pay large overhead connected with operating complicated software solutions.
